🌐Network & Connectivity
TimeCapsule is designed to “just work”, but like any device it needs a stable connection. This page explains the basics — and how upload speed works.
✅ What you need
Ethernet connected to your router
A few minutes after boot for the device to come online
Tip: on first setup, the device may take a little longer to come online. Give it a few minutes before troubleshooting.
🔍 Activation can’t find the device
Wait 5 minutes after first boot
Re-check the Serial Number for typos
Make sure your router is online
If it still doesn’t work:
Try a different Ethernet port on your router.
📱 Mobile app can’t connect
Make sure the Immich app uses this server URL:
If your phone uses a VPN or ad blocker, try disabling it temporarily and retry.
🚀 Upload speed: what actually limits it?
Your backup speed is limited by the slower side of the connection:
Your phone’s upload speed (Wi‑Fi/cellular where you are)
Your home internet download speed (where the TimeCapsule is connected)
In simple terms:
Example:
If you want ~50 Mbit/s backup speed:
your phone needs ~50 Mbit/s upload
and your home internet (TimeCapsule) needs ~50 Mbit/s download
If either side is slower (for example 10 Mbit/s), your backup will also be around that speed.
